Belief

So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

- Author of Hebrews

Everything starts with belief and if you don't believe you might as well not play...

  1. At Bethany, Jesus was determined that they would enter in, in the here and now; that they would see the glory of God. Martha's and Mary's belief system allowed for resurrection in the future. It even accomodated divine healing presently: "if you had been here, Lazarus would not have died." But it did not seem to encompass resurrection power in the here and now.Jesus wanted to bring them beyond where they were already, good and all as that place was. In his mind,in these present circumstances, neither of the former sufficed to show the glory of God. Only one thing would: "Lazarus come forth". And he did. And he didn't stink either.

  2. The message is incredibly simple: God is in charge of life.

I think all unbelief stems from giving death a sting which it no longer possesses.

To put it another way, I think all unbelief stems from the Church's ignorance of the Resurrection save for one day a year.

    Rant over.
